Dr. Ashley Aardsma – DPT, CertDN

I grew up just south of Chicago, IL. My undergraduate degree was from Eastern Illinois University and was a B.S. in Kinesiology and Sports Studies with an education focus. During undergrad, I played NCAA Division I Women’s Rugby (2008-2012) until I had career ending surgery on my knee. I graduated with my DPT from the University of Utah, passed my licensing exam, and having been practicing in UT since. I’ve been certified in Dry Needling since 2021. Since moving to UT in 2013, I have become an avid mountain biker. I also enjoy snow skiing, snowboarding, water sports, camping, and consider myself a boating enthusiast.

My professional passions include sports performance, anatomy and biomechanics, wellness, and injury risk reduction, . I am currently working toward my RMSK certification that will allow me to use ultrasound to diagnosis injury onsite.

I am a movement specialist! This means that I use my observational skills with my education to determine physical impairments and functional deficits. [Physical impairments and functional deficits are just medical jargon for things about your body (the way the joints move, what muscles contract when, in what range of motion the muscles can contract, etc) that prevent or hinder you from physically doing what you need to throughout your day.] Once I have determined the contributing factors that performance or function, I make a plan tailored just to you (involving manual therapy techniques, neuromuscular re-education, and other exercises) to decrease your pain and improve your function.
